This site is extremely helpful because it has videos, not just pictures and descriptions.

One of the best places online is About.com. Go to that site and click on knitting. Sign in to be a member to participate in the forums. There you will find everything you need to know including free patterns. Hope this helps.

I learned how to knit through a site called, aptly enough, learntoknit.com.

http://www.learntoknit.com/instructions_kn.php3 It has pictures and written instructions.
