trial and error is when you try your best estimate'''
you know √of 16 =4,
and √25=5,
so it must be in between,
try 4.3... it's too low...
try 4.4...it's too low
try 4.5...it's too high
so now you know it's between 4.4 and 4.5,
try 4.45... it's too low
try.... etc
until you have it accurate enough to your satisfaction
also it goes on to infinity,
it's an irrational number like π (pi)

The square root 20 is the same as the square root 4 times the square root 5.

The square root 4 = 2, so square root 20 = 2 square root 5.

Hope this helps. Good luck.

a square root means that you want to know what two identical numbers multiplied together equal that number. 20 doesn't have a perfect square root....25 does, that would be 5 because 5 times 5 is 25. when you don't have a perfect square root you find the two numbers that multiplied together give you 20, in this case that is 4 times 5. We know that 2 times 2 is 4 so 2sqrt of 5 is the answer. or you can plug it in the calculator and get a decimal number.
