I'm going to assume that the second equasion should read y=2x

Solve for y in the first equasion:

x=12-y

Then fill it in the second:

y=2(12-y)

Distribute:

y=24-2y

Add 2y to both sides:

3y=24

Divide both sides by 3:

y=8.

Now, put the value for "y" in the first equasion.

x+8=12.

Subtract 8 from both sides.

x=4.

So x=4 while y=8. :)

D192 has the correct answer. When the question asks to "solve the system" that means to answer with an ordered pair.

x + y = 12
y = 2x
So x + 2x = 12
So 3x = 12
x=4 y=8
