I think that girls and boys, men and women, are inhernently similar. But as they grow up, they grow more and more apart due to social pressures. I think as youngsters, children are sort of blank slates. But as time goes by they are pressured to act the way their parents think they should act. And when they get older, it's self perpetuatiing. girls and boys (boys especially) want to be as far on their end of the spectrum as possible, because thats what all their friends want, too. That is so dumb. We are all driven by normal biology. You don't see animals adopting this behavior. A male horse doesnt act any different than a female horse. And I'm not talking about the instintual competetiveness you see in Bucks tying to fight to impress the female. Thats different. Females are competitive, too. My argument is that people are forced to act a certain way early on, its self perpetuating in society, and the few who diviate, have to suffer for it, and I dont think that is right.

See what I mean? The comments by Notyou311, Lisa C, and Quatari Intellectual...although some of them playful reinforces my argument about forcing genders to stay as far on thier side as possible.

Randi Megan...exactly! They disown them because they were unsucessful in keeping them on thier side of the ball field. And most people will stay streight for fear of thier parents dissaproval.

I definitely didn't learn my homosexuality. I knew what I wanted to do, and I did so... such as...

I was a boy doing things I wanted to do such as play with my sisters dolls and have tea parties. I wanted to do that, but I was ridiculed by my family *and* the potential taunting by the neighborhood kids. I didn't understand that and I just became withdrawn from them.

My family was quite homophobic and encouraged me to play sports and do "boy things" like my older brother. The constant comparisons to my siblings wasn't inspiring to me, I knew I marched to a different drummer.

Only into my early adulthood (age 21) I stood up to my family and I came out to them. They weren't all accepting, but they did tolerate me, but this was all self-driven.

Some of what you say is true but there is definitely a great difference in the way males and females behave, think, react which is so biological that such thoughts/ reactions/ characteristics are very predictable and the proof of this is in the study of male/female behaviour of people coming from different cultures/backgrounds all over the globe

Thats true. I learned all about this in my sex and gender class. Well as children, depending on their sex, messages are put upon kids and how they need to act. Look at the difference between boy and girl toys. Parents feel the need to implement these differences on children so that their little boy isnt playing a doll and people frown upon them as parents.

if that was true why are so many homosexuals basically disowned by there parents???

I think they are people who really know who hey ar eand can accept themselfs that way. You should only envy a person who can make there own decisions so well

if it was "learned" then none of us would be gay/lesbian. it's genetic. it's "normal biology." we are born the way we are, and you can't change who you innately are. and it has been proven that many species of animals can exhibit homosexual behaviour as well.
there are some of us who are "pressured to act the way their parents think they should act" and get married, and even have kids....only to realize later they can't live that lie.
when did you make the "choice" to be heterosexual?

My guess is that you're straight....and no matter what I tell you --you will say that my homosexuality is a learned behaviour..so I won't even bother.
