It's added to water, in our toothpaste and mouthwash - kids in elementary school are usually required to swish it in the morning. It helps to prevent cavities.

Fluorine (F 1-) is the so small that it is an ideal ion to use in toothpaste to protect our teeth. It is so small that it fits into the tiny places where bacteria may try to hide and destroy our teeth. When the small spaces are filled with F 1- then the bacteria have no room to get in and do their damage. Many toothpastes and mouthwashes have some form of Fluoride added. (Crest has Stannous Fluoride)
