Hmmmm...that's a tough question. I would say the most common superstition today is opening an umbrella in the house. But I've also had older people freak out at putting a hat on a bed or new shoes on a table, so they may be close seconds. I never freak out about black cats, I have two little lovers and they are wonderful! I never walk under a ladder though and seriously, I broke a mirror and really did have about 7 years bad luck! Now that you mention it, I never thought about how superstitious I really am! LOL!

The number 13.

Not just Friday the 13th. Look at how many office buildings and high rises and apartment buildings don't have a 13th floor - but go up 20+ stories. They always skip having a 13th floor. There were enough patrons who were so sure 13 was an unlucky number that nobody would shop on the 13th floor of a store nor rent an apartment on the 13th floor. Didn't matter how ritzy the place was.

You used to be able to buy cookies from a bakery by the dozen - 12. Or you could buy them by the baker's dozen - 14.

Most common include opening an umbrella indoors, and bad luck for 7 years if you break a mirror. Least common is a lot harder - there are regional superstitions that some people probably don't even know of.

Numbers....the fear of 13 or 666.

Gee, the last supper had 13 people present, but how does everyone know that the baddie was the 13th person? Maybe Jesus was the 13th person. Maybe one of the goodies was.

666 well the bible says this is the number of the beast. BUT the bible also says that things backwards are evil. SO what about 999. Am I safe if the number comes up 999?

It has to be a lucky object...whether it is a coin, or a rabbit's foot, or a four leaf clover, or any number of other things. Sports figures have this, gamblers have this, the ordinary joe blow on the street has them.
