Was it a comic book...? I saw a comic book story (kind of s/f) about a scientist who discovered an alien plant in his window box, and it developed a flower the likes of which had never grown on Earth. He started having dreams about a beautiful girl who called herself Flora. Her hair was the same color as the flower's petals, and when it was raining he dreamed that she was drowning and he had to rescue her. When the sun was scorching the flower, he dreamed that she was lost in the desert and he had to bring her to an oasis. He kept on dreaming about her and his dreams got more and more involved until he was spending most of his spare time asleep, dreaming of his romance with the beautiful girl. Then one day he found that he didn't dream about her any more, and he found that the flower had died. He was broken hearted about this, but the next day a 'foreign exchange student' named Flora showed up to meet him, and they hit it off right away. This was in the sixties or early seventies and the story itself was older, from the early sixties or fifties. It was a reprint. It was a DC comic, and this was the character's only appearance. It was not an ongoing feature in the magazine, but a backup story. It could have been in Atom or Strange Adventures. Good luck finding it! hope this helps.
