One of the single most important elements of your serve is your toss. It is often neglected but absolutely crucial to develop an accurate and consistent toss. Look at some of the greatest servers of all time, and you will notice their toss is extremely consistent. Sampras especially was known for drilling it extensively.

Beyond that you want to focus on keeping relaxed. Tight muscles do not generate as much power, do not flow as smoothly, and are more likely to cause errors. Getting my legs into my serve has drastically helped to improve its speed and accuracy as well. And as everyone else mentioned, practice is crucial. However, you want to make sure you have the right form before you begin practicing. Practicing poor technique is worse than no practice at all.

1. Develop a consistent ball toss by releasing the ball at the height of your head, without flipping your wrist.

2. Keep your balance by tossing the ball above you, opposite your hitting shoulder, no more than 1 foot in front of you.

3. Toss the ball 1 foot higher than your reach so you'll have extra time to make adjustments, if necessary.

try to have a consistent practise.. serving 50 balls in each side.. try to have a target so you would be able to know whats the ryt shot and if you finally realised were you usually do it good then practise to have the right trow of the ball in the air and the timing of the hits.. sometime sthe main secret is in how you trow the ball in the air and how to hit it right..

back in college (many, many moons ago), i wouldn't focus on the opponent, just the line i had to hit(first serve), then fire away. the main thing was to focus. of course I'm not a pro but i still have a pretty good serve.
