It's a Dell E1505 Notebook and it says it comes with a wireless card only: Dell Wireless 1390 b/g. It also says it comes with an integrated 10/100 Network card and modem. Do I need to purchase anything else to have the complete wireless connection and how does all that work?

1. You need to have a broadband accessable service that you are paying for.
2. You need a computer with a wireless card or one built in-GOOD U DO
3. You need to buy a router, I would reccomend a wireless G broadband router.
4. You need to connect the router to the broadband access, (usually its an external modem)
5. You need to run Network setup wizard, found in your control panel, on your computer to you successfully create a wireless network.
6. If you add more computers, you will need to buy a USB adapter for that computer and you will need to run the networks setup again to add the new computer to your network.

You dont use the modem that is built into your laptop, because the broadband company you sign up for usually supplies an external modem, for a fee..

I'm fairly certain you need to have a High Speed internet connection to fully get wireless. I don't think it will work with Dial-up. Now, in order for your Laptop/notebook computer to access the internet wirelessly, you need to have a wireless router connected to a Cable modem or DSL modem.

In a normal setup, The cable modem or DSL modem are hooked up with a wire to a desktop computer somewhere in your home. You need to have some sort of internet connection coming into your house from your ISP (internet Service provider) through either your phone line (DSL, not dial-up) or through your cable.

Between those modems and your permanent desktop computer is where you will place the Wireless Router. You may have seen the linksys ones in the store. It looks like a small blue and black box with 2 Antanae sticking out of it. It is that device that will "talk" to the wireless card in your portable notebook computer. Many manufacturers make wireless routers however. Linksys is just one of the more popular ones.

I'd like to also point out that you can get on the internet on your notebook if one of your neighbors in close proximity has an UNsecured wireless network. I don't recommend using that though because someone could easily be viewing your in formation that is sent through the airwaves. Never do any banking or buying through an unsecured wireless network. Note: If they have a secured wireless network, your computer might be able to recieve the signal, but you won't be able to access the internet, because it will be passwork protected.

you must have a wireless hub or router that connects to your ISP (internet service provider). However, if you are out in public at a Starbucks or somethng that offers internet service, you are all set, your computer should recognize the network, and you are online.
The 10/100 card is for broadband internet/ethernet wires, and the modem is a standard dial up modem.

In order to use your Notebook wirelessly with your high speed connection you are going to need a router. Your connection goes from your Modem (High Speed) to the router. Once you have your router set up properly (Instructions included) you should be able to surf the net from almost anywhere in your home. You may not be able to get a good signal from the router if your house is older and has a lot of interference (metal in the walls, microwave, cordless telephone). Check the link provided to see an example of a router.
