I am Catholic elementary school teacher and the apostle in question is John, or the Beloved Disciple to whom Christ entrusted the care of his mother, Mary, at the crucifixion. (John's gospel says that after Jesus died and rose, the Virgin Mary went to live at John's house with his family.)
The apostle is sitting at Jesus' right-hand side, indicating a special preference. It is not at all a woman, even if Mr. DaVinci thought so. (Remember that Leonardo was not there. The Last Supper was painted 1500 years after Christ lived!)
And just for the record, I loved the book and the movie, but they are FICTION - a made-up story. Dan Brown and Ron Howard did a great job in presenting the story.
Of course, if you believe that Jesus is God, why couldn't He have been married if he had chosen to be?

There are some Historians and students who settle for that Jesus became into maximum probable married, and maximum probabably to Mary Magdalene (because it would be uncommon for a Jewish guy of his age to not have a spouse). no be counted if or not it is Mary shown in Da Vinci's final supper (as pronounced in Dan Brown's Da Vinci Code) is open to hypothesis. artwork could be interpreted by utilising diverse people in lots of diverse techniques - it ought to easily be a beardless youngsters. The Da Vinci Code, even however a great study, became into after all in basic terms fiction. Edit: to "Princess..." you're forgetting Christ became into actual human! on a similar time as he ought to have been the son of God, he became into additionally a Jewish guy. in addition to, this question isn't a non secular debate, it somewhat is bearing directly to the portray... kick back

LOL ... all guys had long hair then
I kind of think Dan Brown was told by his 3rd grade school teacher, a nun,"No I can't marry you, Danny. Nuns don't get married cuz jesus didn't marry. If you can turn back time and try to make Jesus marry, then maybe I could marry you"
I mean, what motivated the guy to go to that length to twist out a novel?

it's just speculation. some people swear that it is mary magdalene, but others claim that it's not. i guess we are just supposed to form our own opinion. it is a great movie, and a great piece of fiction, but that's really all it is

It could be. like everyone else pretty much said it's all speculation. but, that being the case, why should we all believe what the bible says? it was just written so long ago and we are all expected to believe what it says.

It's supposed to be someone [a woman] that all thirteen of those men were close to.
We can only assume it was her, because she is the only one spoken of.
