Today I noticed how inexpensive the housing market is in Texas.. Really nice homes and pools for under $150,000.... Where I live you could not touch a house for under $350,000.... I am thinking of just picking up and moving somewhere in Texas... Which city in Texas is the best? I have a highschooler and I was thinking of Dallas... Any suggestions? Thanks in advance

I live in Springtown, Texas. A little northwest of D/FW. Grew up in Ft Worth
Housing and the cost of living is cheaper here because the majority of people are paid crap wages. Many people here cant even begin to dream of affording a $150,000 home. Its hot as hell here in the summer. This year we had over 40 days of heat over 100 degrees.
The home I live in is 2800 square feet. Its on 20 acres with a pond and all fenced. It cost 149,000.
It has 2 living areas and 3 bedrooms, and the only way I can live here is my mom sold her house, put 30,000 down on this place and we split the mortgage.
If you want to move here, I hope you have a good job that will let you relocate, and I hope you like it when its 106 one week and 65 the next week.
We are also in the middle of a drought which is projected to last another 10 years.

The air quality in Texas metro areas is no worse than than any other
metro area. Our summers can get kind of brutal - esp. July & Aug.
Anyway, to answer your question, Texas has a lot of land and we have
cheaper labor. The fact is, you're right. A lot of people can sell their homes elsewhere for $350,000 and can buy a better house here for $150,000.
As far as what city - that depends on you and what you prefer - nitghtlife,
small town life, country, coast, lakes. The prettiest parts would be the hill
country (central) piney woods (east). Do your research. Welcome!

My Daughter and her husbands family live in Texas and I do agree that the housing there is cheaper. They live in a more rural like area. Called Dekalb.....The houses there are also very inexpensive compared to elsewhere. I think its because they industry or job market is less and the cost of living there is less, and so this affect the housing market also.
