The answer varies depending on your latitude. I looked up the sunrise and sunset times for Bismarck, SD for the first day of Summer and the first day of Winter at this website: http://aa.usno.navy.mil/data/docs/RS_OneDay.html (you can find sunrise, sunset, moonrise, and moonset data for any day and any place in the world at that site)

On the first day of Summer, Bismarck gets just under 16 hours of daylight. On the first day of Winter, Bismarck gets about 8.5 hours of daylight. That's a difference of about 7.5 hours.

Locations at higher latitudes will have a larger difference, locations at lower latitudes will have a smaller difference.
