This is what the Alltel Racing Website had to say.......
"It looked as if Newman would finish 17th as he fought to hold off Dale Jarrett, but with two laps remaining, Newman came on the radio and told his crew that he was out of gas.
Newman had to bring the Alltel Dodge back down pit road once more to get a splash of fuel in order to finish the race. The move put Newman three laps down in the 24th position, and dropped his position in the point standings to 17th".
Ryan has had one tough year. But he keeps going ...........

Like the other two people have said, poor Ryan Newman ran out of gas! It happened to a few other drivers as well. It was hard for them to decide to pit or not...for fear of losing positions. But inspite of a rough ending for Newman, I think he did really well today keeping a lead for a while and racing hard. He did an excellent job!

Ryan ran out of gas like a number of other drivers did. I don't know why some of them try to win those races when they are low on fuel!!
