Overrated, no. He was very good, people forget with all his success with Man Utd, that he kept goal when Denmark surprised everyone to win the Euro in 1992.
Was he the best?No. Shilton was better as were the 2 great Belgians, Marie-Pfaff and Preudhomme. My own favourite was the great Russian, Renat Dassayev.
But Schmeichel certainly would among the top 20 of all time, without him United wouldn't have won the Treble in 1999. His crucial penalty stop against Arsenal in the semi-final replay, allowed Giggs to score a wonder goal to win the tie. Furthermore, he was instrumental in preventing Bayern from adding a second goal in the Champions League Final and putting the tie beyond United's reach. We wouldn't be talking of that famous victory in injury time without all those saves.

Fantastic question, great goalkeeper, reason why they shocked everyone in Europe when they won it. Can't forgive the fact he played for Man U though. Nice guy to boot by all accounts, saw him on that celebrity golf thing last year. I think you may have hit a nerve with Angel though - might have to tread carefully, redheads can be murder...

It's just Man United's way, they have a knack of believing their own media hype.
Tell every1 UR the Best Team in the UK long enough & any1 will just agree 2 shut 'em up 4 five minutes.
