Sounds obvious but nobody can really replace John Peel because he was unique and his career spanned an equally unique period. That's not to denigrate Steve Lamaq but I'm not sure the beeb are looking for a direct Peely replacement so hope that Mr Lamaq can just be himself and not feel he must fill anybodies metaphorical shoes.
It's a bit like the age old "who are the new Beatles?" type of questions. There was only one Beatles and likewise only one John Peel.

Not in any way what so ever. I sometimes think Steve attempts to emulate the style of John.

After John Passed away and Steve started filling the evening slots, there was suddenly alot more mainstream stuff filling the time, FooFighters etc.

There really is no one else with his character, charm and eclectic taste.

Plus, this is a cheap shot, but Steve Lamaq certainly has a face for radio.

I think John Peel was an enigmatic figure and personality, very perceptive and influential in pointing us to a contemporary expression of music. Many artist cited him as being not only influential, but instrumental in giving them exposure they needed to promote their art! The passion he had for music consumed his life...and it would be impossible to replace or worse, try to replicate it. It is possible another figure with the same vision and passion may take hold of the reigns..but it may take time to develop.

I don't miss John Peel one little bit. Many years ago when he first started out he slammed a door in my face and nearly broke 5 of my fingers.

I like Lamacq but I don't think his taste in music is as interesting and as varied as Mr. Peel's.

Nah. Lamacq doesn't have the philosophical touch that Peel had.
