Okay, we don't 'plan' on having another baby, but aren't 100% against more children either as we're not taking many 'precautions'... but I had also orinally thought that between breastfeeding (with occasional supplementing) and my husband using 'withdrawal' (as he really dislikes condoms)... :P that my chances of getting pregnant were slim to none... now I'm wondering if it was foolish to think that. I haven't taken any pregnancy tests, as we're trying to penny pinch right now, but I have shown NO signs of getting my period... my 'newborn' is 3 months old now (wow time flies)... (and have a 5 year old daughter)... I haven't exactly shown any 'signs' of being pregnant except for maybe extra hunger... but I've been attributing that to 'going back to normal'... after 'forgetting to eat' quite often after baby was born. Am also on fluoxetine from having PPD, but am just now (this week) beginning the steps to wean myself off of them... what are your thoughts and opinions?

you will not get your period if you are breastfeeding..but you can become pregnant. I suggest your husband uses a condom.
Also, it would be best if you obtained a precautionary pregnancy test. Tell your husband to suck it up and use condoms or the amusement park is closed until further notice...

withdrawal is not a safe contraceptive. I've always been told that while breastfeeding women will not experience a period. About getting pregnant at this time, I'm not sure if you would or not. You're experiencing hunger because you're feeding yourself and your baby from just your body. Check with your doctor about the "avoiding pregnancy" part, and have a nice dinner tonight!

I'd like to refer you to my sister in law, who has 3 children (1 a set of twins) by this very method of "birth control." Yes, you can (and many do) get pregnant while breastfeeding. You need to be using some form of birth control. I don't think you can take the pill while breastfeeding though, but not sure. Check with your ob/gyn.

You are most fertel after having a baby!!!!! Breastfeeding will cause you to feel more hungry...you are still eating two!!!! If you are penny pinching and worried about being pregnant again go to your OBGYN or a PLANED PARENTHOOD office and they should test you for free...well good luck and if you are not prego there are birthcontrol options that are safe to use while breastfeeding!! ask your doc about ( IUD's, and cervical cap's, nuva rings and other forms of similar BC!!)

It is very possiable you could be pregnant its not uncommon for some women to have kids 10 months apart. If your breastfeeding full time its very unlikely though but not 100% full proof.Take a test to find out whats happening. It could just be your body getting back to normal. Some womens periods after birth dont always go back to normal.

Most women don't have their periods during times when they breastfeeding. Withdrawal is not an effective method of birth control. Sperm still release during sex and before ejaculation.
I have heard of women getting pregnant while breastfeeding.
I would be inclined to believe you are probably not pregnant. I don't think you are having any symptoms that point to you being pregnant.

breast feeding to prevent pregnancy is an old folks tale. it is not true.
if your pinching pennies then maybe you should use a contraceptive. like the pill?? or patch?? or ring?? something.
maybe the fluoxetine is effecting your period??
depression can influence all types of body functions. look into that too.
call your doc.
good luck.

It took a while to get my period after the baby was born, and I wasn't even breastfeeding.

We were using withdrawal too, and my doctor advised me against it unless we were sure we wanted to conceive again!

I went on Ortho Evra, the patch, and I love it.

Sounds to me like you should talk to your OBGYN about a birth control pill of some sort. While breast feeding works as a birth control for the first few months, it is time to find another method.
