They grow into my driveway area and sometimes scratch my car, and my neighbors have been over to my house and told me that if I trim (well i kinda butchered them, but had to in order to get them back on their side), then I would have problems.....like a threat. So can I get into trouble or should I trim them anyways?

Put them on written notice to cut the bushes by a given date or you will have it done and send them a bill. Then do it. Anything on your side of the property line is fair game, but you do have to live next to your neighbor.

Get your property line assessed and have a professional determine they indeed are on your side. Take lots of pictures and get a notarized document from the person who did the survey, then trim the bushes accordingly. They cannot be on your property if they are causing damage. If they sue, you will have the proof needed to defend yourself.

Please do not EVER dump gasoline into the ground. It can get in the ground water and have very BAD effects. If anything use a plant killer. It is not right but at least it is relatively safe.

Well, you should resolve this problem in a neighborly manner, and ask him nicely to trim it for you. You can trim any plants that are encroaching on your property, so long as you do not do anything that will kill the plant or cause some serious damage to it. If your neighbor is unwilling to trim it, then you can go to city hall and make a complaint, then your neighbor will have to trim it.

May I presume that you're in the United States? May I presume that you're in the State of California? No, I suppose not. So the answer must necessarily reflect upon the human condition, and upon the plurality of the world's governments.

The "moral" answer is -- "Sure, go ahead. It's your land, do as you wish." Would that the majority of people were moral. The "legal" answer is the same. It's your land. You can litter it, you can clean it up. As long as you do not harm anybody else.

But let us reflect back upon that other side of the human condition. If you harm your neighbor's plants, then he might not like you very much. And then you will be living next to a neighbor who does not like you very much. How will this improve the quality of YOUR life?

Why not talk to your neighbor and offer to pay him (her?) some money to hire a neighborhood kid, to clean-up the offending bush? If he (she?) takes your money, then does it really matter who ultimately trims it?

your neighbor might get ticed if you trim them over u property but how much could he collect if he sewed and I am certain you would not get fined from a criminal thingy. Why not talk to them again while they are not po,ed at you. Trouble can mean a lot of things from someone who can watch your every move. I once had a neighbor who kept backing over my mail box. The guy just disappeared dono what happened???

I would talk to the cops and tell them what is going on before you trim the bushes and your neighbors may sue you. show the cops the scratches on your car and what the bushes did. they will tell you what you can do before there is trouble and the cops will know if something happens

you may trim any that hang or grow onto your property as long as you do not cause permanent damage to them. it would be best to ask your neighbor to do this for you, though.

Yes you can. Tell them that the hedges are affecting your right to use and enjoy your property. Contact your local zoning board too.
