How many of you are afraid of thunder storms, is it the sound or because you know lightening will follow?......

I've not been afraid of them since I understand it better now.. The lightning superheats the air around it, and the rumble that follows are the sound waves from the superheated air. It only rumbles because it's rolling over the features on the ground...

I never worried as a child as I new my mum and dad would protect me against anything. But then you grow up and realise the world can be a worrying place and you are not a child. I don't like storms as they make me feel nervous. I think TV has made it worse. Whenever there is something bad hapening there is usually a storm to add to the drama!!!!

Terrified: I read the news and I have a crazy imagination...so put together,,,,,,,,everything about storms scares me......Flodding, getting struck by lightning, my house blowing to nothing, sliding off the road..........sounds aren't too scary but the darkness and water do.

Lightning always comes before the thunder. Study the physics.
Lightning is dangerous and kills more people each year than tornadoes (most people don't believe that!).
Keep out of lightning and you will be safe.

sometimes im afriad lightening will hit somewhere near me and start a fire, because once my friends house was burnt down from lightening
