All dictators know that the #1 way to subdicate your people is to either take the guns away or to register them in such a way that you can track you has guns so that you can take them away later.

No he gave the guns and RP Gs to the public.Despite of what has been said about him he was a very smart man who knew how to control Iraqi people.{many of them are like wild African dogs}He knew Iraq war was coming.and he had 10 years to prepare the blue print for the conflict.Americans on the other hand thought that Iraq will be beaten in 1 week,Don't you wish they should have seen his battle plan?

Iraq is a nation of tribes and warlords, much like Afghanistan. Many of those gunowners would fight to the death rather than give up their firearms. That's why the United States invasion forces have not attempted to disarm the people, and even returned guns to suspected insurgents that they captured and later decided to release. We continue to honor the rights of all law-abiding Iraqis to keep and bear arms.

I noticed the article doesn't even claim Republicans favor, the alleged proposal. It is a collection of quotes. the only ones attributed to anyone are from a libertarian who opposed the idea. No source is given for the allegation that the proposal exists.
