I personally think the MOST POPULAR anime right now is Naruto becuase:
~Everywhere i go on the internet, I see Naruto posts on message boards, or Naruto polls, and Naruto quizzes, and it fills up an entire screen even though the message board or page is for anime in general.
~I go to stores and I see Naruto merchnadise. Right next to Yu-Gi-Oh cards and baseball cards, I see the Naruto ones even though there are also those Zatch Bell ones, I've never seen them.
~Naruto is one of the top Shounen's in Japan mainly becuase it's sort of like DBZ becuase of how long it is and it's extended fighting.
~ I personally think that it's popular becuase of it's storyline and how ever single character has their own past and each character plays a major role even if they aren't the main character himself. And each character has depth or an actual personality people can relate to.
Overall the show is well done, plus it's funny. And the drawing is pretty realistic and everyone looks different. I've seen animes where I couldn't tell which character was which!
And so you know, yes I am a fan of the show. THAT'S NOT WHY I SAY IT'S THE MOST POPULAR AT THISE POINT IN TIME RIGHT NOW! Heh heh...I've never seen Bleach though and I like Cardcaptor Sakura a smiggin' more...And Inuyasha is beginning to annoy me...

Naruto is like the most popular anime in the world (actually it IS the most popular!) I like Bleach a lot more, but Naruto is more popular. T_T

I think it's Naruto. Personally, I do not like Naruto. I love Bleach and Inuyasha. But my personal fav will always be Cowboy Bebop.

I would probably say the popular ones that play on cartoon network adult swim since they therefore reach the broadest audience, so -
Inuyasha
Bleach
Fullmetal Alchemist
In 'anime' circles (people who are into anime) I would include a lot more, such as Fruits Basket.
Probably also are Pokemon, Dragonball Z, and Sailor Moon ... but people don't think of them as much b/c they are 'kiddy' (at least the English versions).
