If I wasn't happily married, I would prefer saliva, followed by a gentle, steady pinching and rubbing.
I'm sorry if this comes off a bit crass, but you really can't post a question with the word Boob in it and not expect to get at least one male response. We are "suckers" for that kind of thing.

Soap can dry them out even more, so make sure to only wash them with regular water. Use any of the creams intended for breastfeeding moms. They are meant to help with itchy dry nipples specifically.

Yes, horomones are crazy. You can use two thing that I know of, lanolin, and eucerin. both found in breastfeeding section, or lotions. Plus it's good to have early when you breastfeed, nipples become dry, and sore. and it's safe.

The boy shop used to have ( i think they still do) a whole line of boy care products especially for pregnant women.. There was one the I kid you not was simply called Nipple Cream. See if they still carry it.
