I recently started a scif-fi forum that is also about a few other subjects, like TV/Entertainment, Music, etc- and I want people to join and start discussing stuff- how do I get people interested?

what you should do is go to other forums related to your subject and hang around. Be helpful and don't advertise there. Put your site's address in your signature and people will start going to your site when they recognize you as an 'expert' in that field
