Ya Ya's answer is correct.

This is not really a function of song length, but of file size. That, in turn, involves a trade-off between quality and size.

A very short song (under 3 mins) can occupy more iPod space than Queen's 'Bohemian Rhapsody', if it is at a high bitrate!

The first way to fit more songs on is to reduce bitrate.

To really oversimpify, most commercial 'pop' or rock music will sound best at 192kbps, or a minimum of 160kbps. You can go as low as 128kbps, but some listeners can discern a drop in fidelity here.

Go to iTunes>Preferences>Importing and check what your settings are for this, and adjust before you convert, or just reconvert.

The second way is to use AAC encoding rather than MP3 when converting your CDs. You can also set this at iTunes>Preferences>Importing. This will occupy 80% of the space of an average MP3.

The combination of both methods shoud free up more space for more songs.

It can fit approximately 120 songs, if it's 4 minutes and uner. if it's more, it will probably have more or less songs, depending on the duration of the songs.

For example:

120 songs that are 4 min. each= 480 minutes total
or 100 songs that are 4 min. each= 400 min. + 40 songs that are 2 min. each= 80. 400+80= 480.

It all varies. It's short and simple. Hope I've helped!

yes, size does matter...longer songs take up more memory and vice versa.
