You must be very sure of the tattoo, what it is and where you want it. Your tattoo is a piece of art that you'll carry with you wherever you go for the rest of your life. So think long and hard. For my first one, I had the image and the location picked out for 3 years before I had it put on. I needed to make sure I wouldn't change my mind! After 3 years, I felt certain and went and did it. I wouldn't change a thing. I've had that tattoo for almost 20 years and have 3 more now.
When a person regrets their decision, it's usually because they didn't make absoultely sure that THIS tattoo is the one they wanted. They chose too fast and didn't let it sink in. I recommend everyone wait at least one year from the time they "lock in" on an idea before putting it on.
Pain? No. Not really. It's uncomfortable while it's being done, but if you watch a movie or read while it's being done, you can distract yourself. There are certain areas that are more sensitive than others, like the ankle, wrist and chest. Other areas are less sensitive, like the buttocks and deltoid muscles.
I'd suggest starting really small, quarter sized, somewhere hidden. Then you'll know if you wanna go for the big gnarly half sleeve or now. Yeah, I have the big gnarly half sleeve! Whoo hoo! I have dragons on my arm, back and hip and a tribal band on the other arm.
Just remember, getting a sucky tattoo lasered off really hurts like a bi-yotch! And a sucky tattoo is one done by a cheap artist. Make sure you choose your tattooist carefully!!!

Depends on your pain tolerance. I had some that were irritating and uncomfortable.. and others that hurt like hell.
As for gettign somethign I regret.. yes.. I have a few small tattos they are poorly done, in way too obvious a location and are quite frankly retarded. I was young and stupid and had know idea what I was getting myself into. So think carefully about where you are putting these tattoos, what design you are getting and the "artist" (make sure the person actually is one).

I got 3 while in I was 19-20yrs old I am now 35 and have no regrets I placed them where if I wanted to get dressed up and go out without them showing I could. Did they hurt depends on where you get them at and your tolerance for pain. I got a red rose on my breast it hurt a little a heart on my shoulder it didn't hurt it was small and Marvin the Martian on my other shoulder it was the biggest and hurt like hell.

The pain was bearable. I just regret it now because I feel that tattoos are sort of undignified at my age (34)

I have three, do not regret it at all. It did not hurt to me, they are on my upper back. Rose, black panther and broken heart. They are addicting, I will be getting more soon.

I love my tats!!!! The did sting really bad, but it is more like if you were to light a match, blow it out, and place it on your skin (over, and over)
