...should I run for the hills?

I don't know the gory details, and don't want to ask (because I'd have to reveal how I know, which is tied in with my OCD). But from what I've learned, Dr. "pro se" has had his fair share of family problems (divorce; multi-sons with multi-courtroom visits, mostly traffic) that I didn't know about before I began therapy.

Should I just mind my own business and hope for the best, since my problems are different from his (although I most likely do remind him of his son), or should I try and find another therapist? I'm running out of likely candidates in this small berg: most all of the docs have some sort of civil proceedings on file, although nothing quite so strange as suing their own son...

There is a good reason surgeons are not allowed to operate on themselves. They are doctors (and psychologists) not demi-gods. accept that people are only human an even in the best families there are problem children. Do you feel comfortable confiding in this person? Do you feel that you have made progress? If so stay out of their personal life. If not, and you find that all the hub bub is too distracting find someone you are comfortable with.

Do you think most psychologists go into that field because they are so healthy and have their lives figured out as perfectly as they can figure out someone else's?

They often learn by all the mistakes they make, in addition to observations on life of others around them and education....

But the GOOD ones make a lot of mistakes it seems like.

If you feel like you can talk to him and get things going good, then keep him. If you think he's a bore and no good for helping you specifically, then run.

Ask yourself if you're using your penchant for investigation to relieve the stress of going to the psychologist. Good luck.
