Nonsuppression of reading material is that the material isn't censored or limited because of issues like, say, drugs, sex, violence, child abuse, things like that. Like if a kid got to see whatever was on TV regardless of the rating (the TV didn't have a V-Chip prohibiting certain shows.) What would be good or bad about a student being able to see any ol' material he or she found at the library? That's all I'm gonna say. But you might want to think about this from say, a parent's point of view and then your own point of view. That might help you see both sides.

Non supression means censorship. So should Lady Chatterly's Lover be allowed in the school library for instance? Or those that are supportive of creationism? Or promote racist views? There is a balance between letting students having access to all information from which they can form their own opinions on one hand. On the other guarding them against being corrupted by clever, manipulative use of language and selective use of information before they are strong enough to differentiate these succesfully for themselves.

It's basically asking what is good and bad about banning books in the library at schools. For instance, it's bad because it limits what children can read--that decision should be made by the parents and the students. But it may be good because it keeps very controversial books out of students' reach.

Pros: no restriction on material, so that students can expand their views of the world.
Cons: students might misuse the privilege.
