Don't. Take it to your local American Legion Post for proper, honorable disposal. They may replace it for you if they have the funding.

Technically, you're not supposed to. Just as an American Flag is never supposed to touch the ground.
But if you must, it can be washed with a mild detergent by hand without any damage.
If the flag is frayed, torn, or otherwise damaged, please take it to the local American Legion or Boy Scout office where they will properly destroy it. This includes cutting the flag into strips and burning it.
They sometimes will give you a new one or you can buy a nice outdoor vinyl one that resists fading, tearing, and dirt at many stores.

you do not ought to spoil a grimy flag or a flag which has touched the floor. the flags the VA hand out to cover vets caskets are cotton and sewn stars and stripes- commonly made through Annin and co or Valley Forge flag organizations. im very sorry to hearken to about your flag gtting damaged- somewhat one in each of this sentimental value. i stay in England so i dont have dry cleaners who clean flags for loose or any that i'd trust with my beloved American flags besides! ok it truly is how i clean my flags i dont use the showering device to bathe them for worry that the showering procedure isn't in my administration so i wash my flags contained in the tub- one at a time at the same time as needed (I have fifty seven!). and that i take advantage of bathe gel to do it clone of i'd use on myself. in water thats extremely warmth yet no longer warm. then i take to the showering device to spin it which only receives rid fo the added water then i take it outdoors and cling on the rotary washing line to dry. it will be nice after this. juwst make certain its thoroughly dry earlier you fold it again up. possibly lay it out on a spare mattress for some days to make easily particular. then perchance get round to procuring that flag case!

I don't have to clean mine, I keep it flying on my front porch all the time. When it rains (as it is doing now) it helps keep it clean. I am not well, and I was wondering if I need to take my flag inside everynight, because I always thought that was the right thing to do. I contacted my congressman, and he told me, that when we are at war, you can leave your flag flying, at all times. I now leave it flying, all the time, and I am proud to be an American.

Try going to your local American Legion. They can either give you care instructions or properly dispose of it for you.

paraffin, then dry off using the warmth from a match. That is what our friends in the middle east do, so it must be ok.

Keni, you are one scary individual!!! Alas, we have one thing you don't, "freedom of speech" and, I honor your right to that. I don't have to agree, however, that's what sets us apart from middle east and other countries.
