Thats normal, you can right click and clear out the recent documents, and it should still be stored on the hard drive. If not, when you save it be sure you save it to c drive

Recent documents is full of SHORTCUTS..... they can be safely deleted.
To delete in XP
To Clear the Contents of the My Recent Documents Folder
To clear the My Recent Documents list, follow these steps:
1.Right-click Start, and then click Properties. Or, if the Start menu is already displayed, right-click an empty area of the Start menu, and then click Properties.
2.Click Customize.
3.Click the Advanced tab.
4.Under Recent documents, click Clear List, click OK, and then click OK. Your most recently used documents are removed from the My Recent Documents folder. Note that this action does not delete the documents from your hard disk.

If you have XP open C,in Tools select folder options, View options and tick Show all files.
Open Documents and Settings in C.
Open the folder which is the name you use to access Windows.
If you use Administrator only, open that folder.
In the folder selected you will see 'My Recent Documents'
Open it and select the files you want to delete and do it.
To save you the headache of doing this everytime, right click on My Recent Documents and select 'Send to' and Desktop.
You will now be able to access this folder on the desktop now.
You can now reverse the View Options you selected earlier.
Hope this helps
