Today the NHI number is given when the birth is registered. However as other answers have indicated you get one automatically when you reach 16 years of age.If you are not a British National you need to go to the nearest Citizens Advice Bureau and they will direct you.

depends whether you are UK national or foreign worker. the former at 16. if the latter, go to an inland revenue and get a tax code and also phone job centre to arrange an interview. they'll tell you what you need to take.

if you were born in the uk, you should get it when you are 16. If not them am not too sure and it will be worth going to cab to enquire
