You can wash any type of paint as long as you are careful. Where possible look at the paint can and follow those instructions. If you can't do that...

If it's a flat paint use a mild cleaner and don't rub too hard. If it's a gloss or semi-gloss paint you can use a much stronger cleaner. Either way... START AT THE BOTTOM and work UP or you'll get permanent streaks where water runs down the wall through the existing soil.

if the paint used was a semi-gloss or gloss paint, clean up should be easy.murphy oil and warm water should be enough to clean most dirt.bleach and warm water will clean mildew, most stains and sanitize the walls.dont use to must bleach.those magic eraesers work pretty good also for crayon and such.

if a flat paint was used this may pose a problem.stains will adhere and penetrate flat paint.it may be better to seal the stain with a primer like kilz.and repaint that wall.good luck

It would depend on the type of paint you used: Latex or Oil based, as well as what is staining your white paint...

Consult your paint can for appropriate cleaners

I use 409 for light cleaning on my latex walls... and TSP on truly nasty stains.

Good luck.
