Democracy in a family spells disaster. If that parents aren't in charge, then the kids will end up undisciplined little brats with no respect for other people or authority.

Democracy in school? Same answer as above.

In fact, democracy in almost any form is a recipe for trouble (and before anyone objects, America is a republic, not a democracy).
