had folders on drive.then disconnected it and reconnected it and then there are these "icons" that arent usable.cant defrag it or delete them.should i do the error check and see what happens?

if you have an USB portable hard drive you should always do a safe remove before you disconnect the cable...
you could try error checking by my guess is that has it is it's already corrupted, to delete those files that you can't delete try this utility^:
