keni is right, but a work shop is also a place where men work on any project that is not associated with what they do for a living away from their home. And men do not refer to it as a "work" shop. It is simply referred to as "the shop' or "my shop". The shop is for pleasurable pursuits. Linking it with the word "work" is taboo. If work is so enjoyable why do they pay us to do it?

Well, since this is asked under the classification of Maintenance & Repairs rather than "Business" or "Psycology"...
A work-shop is an area, independent of size, where you keep your tools and supplies and conduct home maintenance & repairs!
It can range from a barn, garage, basement or room to a tiny closet...
It is also the Holy and Sacred refuge of most American Males whose butts are not welded to their couches.

either a shop where you do work yourself
but most of the time its a place like a classroom...many people work on projects in one room and everyone shares tips/tricks helping others while they work.
Its great...Home depot used to do this every so often with small nail togeather kits

aha. it is where long-married men go to hide when the missus is making lots of noise pushing the vacuum cleaner around. Apparently we are repairing something, fitting a plug or cutting wood but really it is a refuge.

Normally it is a place where you do a certain type of work, like car repair, boat building, arts and crafts, wood working...that type of thing.
