It has to do with Music Publishing and who owns the songs. As you know there are royalties paid out to those individuals who own certain songs. Any time they are played on the radio or in public at an event the person who owns that song gets paid a royalty.

So many years ago Jackson successfully bid on the music rights of most of the Beatles catalog. That's one of the reasons you see them on TV commercials.

More recently it was reported that Jackson sold half of his Beatles catalog to pay some debts.

some how the Beatles lost the rights to there own songs and the record company auctioned them off Micheal Jackson out bid Paul McCartney in the auction. that's why Nike was able to use the Beatles song REVOLUTION Micheal Jackson let them use it. the Beatles never wanted to let there music be used for advertising. and i think that's the only reason Micheal Jackson let them use it, i think Paul got Micheal Jackson to sell the rights back to him when he had all those law suits going on with those kids he was molesting

I think Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson used to be friends, and Paul told Michael that a good way to invest money is to "buy" songs (the royalty rights). So Michael turned around and started buying Beatles songs - which Paul felt was ungentlemanly of Michael to try so hard to beat him to the punch on so much of his own creative work considering it was he that had given Michael the idea in the first place.

Jackson bought a bunch of their stuff out from under Paul. Tension ensued. I think Paul got the chance to buy most of it back when Jackson had to sell to pay debts.

Paul McCartney told Michael that he was going to buy The Beatles song catalog but Michael outbid him. Michael got it but sells the right for commericals and stuff. Basically, Michael backstabbed Paul.
