I want to send in articles or pictures to magazines/newspapers, but I'm not sure how to go about this. Should I search around for magazines that want specific pictures or stories, or just submit them to random magazines ?

You will have more success if you ask them first; No business puts responding to unsolicited material very high up on its "things-to-do" list (do you?), so you are much better off talking to them first, and asking "Hey, I have this idea for an article, can I send you a copy?"

You might want to buy a copy of the "Writer's Yearbook" too, an invaluable source of information to help you get your work in front of the right person in the right department. You might well have written the best political expose ever composed, but if it lands on the Sports Editor's desk, its next stop will undoubtedly be the trash can!

Good luck. There are few things more rewarding than being published and getting paid for it!
