Another free antivirus program that works well is AVG. But, if those are the two that you have to choose from, I'd probably get computer associates. The reason being that it is not a common antivirus program. If it uses less system resources than McAfee or Norton, it's a winner. That is what AVG does best, not many bells and whistles, just a good antivirus.

I have used the AVG,Norton and McAffee, the McAffee would be my pick of the two you listed.
If you need a program to clean up your computer from virus, worms, key loggers, spyware, adware and malicious programs try Stopzilla at www.stopzilla.com

Avenger Antivirus Free is the BEST free antivirus. Check PCworld.com for review. You can aslo download free Ewiido anti-spyware program from Grisoft (AVG Free site). My Dell PC came with MacAfee security suite installed and I will use until time for renewal. After that will definitely consider Kaspersky which is the leader, and what computer gurus use. Check Kim Kommando web site and subscribe to her newsletters. She is excellent.

Norton Antivirus is better. And for spyware/adware protection, Spyware Doctor:

the best Antivirus prog is Nod32, as it will alert you if a site whil;e you are online is uploading a virus to your computer while others like Norton and rest don't.
