We're a republic. There's no question about that. In a democracy everyone votes on everything. We don't do that. We elect representatives to vote for us. That's a republic.

We are a republic. A republic is a state or country that is led by people whose political power is based on principles that are not beyond the control of the people of that state or country. An important reason why people could choose their society to be organized as a republic is the prospect of staying free of state religion: in this approach living under a monarch is seen as more easily inducing a uniform religion.

Our government is representative democracy. In a true democracy everyone votes on every issue. In a representative democracy, we elect representatives to vote on issues.

Clearly we are not a democracy in the purest form, we are a republic inthat the three branches of government serve to keep check on the others. In a republic one function is to preserve the rights of the less than majority segments, and to ensure that rights of all people are preserved.

If it were a pure democracy, whites, who have been the "majority" for so long, would have some comeuppance right around the corner in 2025 or so, when it is predicted that they will become the minority.

Specifically I would argue we are a 'Representative Democracy."
The change occured during the Lincoln administration. Prior to this time our gov. had 3 separate departments (Executive, Legislative, & Judicial). During Lincoln this was changed to 3 separate 'branches'
- whereby the Legislative and Judicial are now convened under the power of the Executive (see CFR IV Sec 1 for the statutues on the different flags of our country). Above an behind those two branches hangs the flag of the Executive Branch as defined under the aforementioned code.
Also note prior to his admin. the Legislature made laws in two different sessions, one session being for the US and the other session passing laws for the US of A. During his admin. this changes and now the Legislature makes only makes Resolutions and only for the US - regardless of the session.
Also, Lincoln's most famous amendment makes every person a citizen of the United States (defined under law as being the geographical location referred to as Wash DC) thereby losing their former status as a common person to the land (i.e., county, state).
Further, the Statutes at Large (pre-Lincoln) cannot be supplanted by the statutes post Lincoln.
And just one more item, he is called "The Father of Democracy."
Gee, I wonder why?
Good Luck.
