Why do people doubt the Buckeyes as a true number 1?

Reasonable answers please...no ignorant "because they suck" responses please...

Right now there is no real number 1. In my opinion USC or Auburn could beat Ohio State possibly and only when someone wins it all can they say they are number 1. Right now all the teams undefeated can claim to be the best.
