Making bubbles is an obsessive/compulsive problem that all male bettas have. Don't worry about it, at least it gives him something to do.

Unless you really want to breed Betas....which means finding a healthy female, choosing one that is fairly active, just slightly smaller than the male...don't bother. It is much more trouble than other fish. After the male "embraces" her and mates....get the female out of there! He will kill her! Trying to get her out, without disturbing the bubble nest is a chore! After successful mating, the male will spit the fertilized eggs into the bubble nest. After a few weeks, the babies will free swim, now you have to get the male out of there, or he will eat his young! A few weeks after that, you can see which babies are male or female. It's best to separate all of the young into separate containers, it keeps them from attacking each other! If you still want to try it, stock up on clean pickle jars and Good luck!

LOL!! When Bettas make a lot of bubbles, it's because they are really happy, comfortable, and very healthy. There is no need for male Bettas to mate. Nothing will happen if they never do. He doesn't need a mate. You should be happy that your fish likes the home you provide for him.

Sounds like the water needs cleaning. You can get any female to go with the male and they should not fight. Female are plain janes. Just so you do not get another male and have them kill each other. Talk to your pet store when you get the new fish and they should be able to answer any and all questions that you have.

Female and male bettas should never be kept together unless you are breeding.
And if you are keeping him in a fishbowl, NOTHING IS SHOULD BE ADDED. Fishbowls are horrible and should never be used. If you ever want to expand your fish-keeping, get a real tank and be a real aquarist.

The bubbles mean that he's gasping for air since betta fish breath air too and it also means he's healthy. i'm not sure about the mating part he may like the female.

betta males and females normaly hate eachother, exept during breading time, after they breed, leave the males with the bubble nest, and put the female somewhere else, then when the bubble eggs hatch remove the male

That is a terrible Idea! Beta's and their females should always be kept apart unless you're breeding them. and the female fish eat their young. the siamese fighting fish attack eachother at every point.

NO!!! bettas are loner fish...a male will ALWAYS kill a male and sometimes females...unless you want TONS of betta babies dont put them in hte same tank....bettas are alpha fish...they may seem lonely, but if you get another betta make sure you don't put them in the same tank. what we do w/ ours is we hold a mirror up to his tank and he gets all puffed up and excited. its good entertainment.

i have four bettas and none of them have a mate. they dont really need one and get along fine without one. If you do get a female the chances of him killing her are pretty high.
