Procrastination and Avoidance usually comes from depression and low selfesteem. Or a lack of knowledge about the future or future event. I have found that research by trying is the most successfull way to eliminate procrastination and the fear of failure. Nobody starts out an expert, it takes many trials to become an expert. Just try something different and you will be successfull. It may take many attempts to find what will keep you interested in life. Start small and work your way up, you really have nothing to loose by trying life.

Maybe you are scared. You know life is all about succeeding and failing. You just need to start small and think of something you like to do and get involved in it. From there you will see your life will begin don't be afraid to live. The worse that can happen is you will die and that will happen whether you are sitting at the computer or jumping out a plane. GO LIVE LIFE and have fun

you do one thing and then you nag yourself that you should be doing something else

make up your mind - lay it all out on the table - which is best for your happiness maximisation?

the voice that says that playing on the internet is wasting your life, that bein gon the internet isnt real life - it is correct? - internet can educate, give ideas, ideas can change lives - is the part of us that says that the internet is fooling, just the part of us that cant see the potential of the internet to enrich lives, that thinks, simplistically: people didnt play on the internet in the past, so it cant be any use?

is play inferior to work? - concepts can say so, but read 'homo ludens' [man the player] by huizinga, and it changes your view of play

i think the questions on yahoo answers are inspiring - they show signs of life - they are more lively than books

the internet may be the way that humanity helps lift itself into a new level of consciousness and maturity

the internet may be the only thing that can lift the plane of humanity above the tree level of nuclear winter we are heading for

we have this ancient prejudice that words arent real life - a hangover from pre-words human life? - but words can expose one to more life than 'real' life sometimes - words are distilled experience

Let me ask you a question:

why do you consider such things as yahoo answers time wasters, and
what would you rather be doing?

If you should be paying bills, doing house/homework etc. then you have to come to grips with it and get off the computer. But if you are deriving pleasure from this then you are, in fact, living your life.

My guess is that you have a lot of things to do, some unpleasant, and you can't figure out which one to attack first.

If that is so, you should make a list of tasks, prioritize them and get on with it. The problem with unpleasant chores is that if you don't like doing them they seem a lot more tedious. Whereas if you say "I am going to get this out of the way so that I can enjoy myself" you will be able to get them done more quickly as you have set yourself a goal.
Good luck.

Only you can really answer that, although psychotherapy might help you get at some underlying issues. We humans are very complex creatures, and we are all shaped by some extent by our fears. All of us in varying flavours and intensities go through having to understand our fears and quirks and learn to live with them. It's funny - but it's the fact that we're all different that gives us all a certain commonality - you do not have horns - you have life's challenges as do the rest of us - and I wish you well in learning to understand and deal with yours

There's no link to the next page in life. You have to find your own way and that can be exhausting. Browsing through something like Answers is so easy and immediately satisfying!

I definately feel you, though! Hey, you could at least take your laptop (if you have one!) down to the local coffee shop and cruise answers with other people around!

Because procrastination is tricky. The internet is the best tool to avoid doing the things you don't want to do.
