All I know is that there are about 25 000 people settled in Vojvodina or Croatia. They say that they came from Ukraine but they are not Ukrainians or Russians. Their language differs from the Ukrainian. In Former Yugoslavia, they had elementary schools in their own language. I would like to know more about this nice and friendly population.

The correct "English" spelling is Rusyn. The more anglicized name is Ruthenian. My husband is from that province in the former Yugoslavia. Their heritage is descended from Carpathian (the Mountains) Ukrainian. The language sounds so similar to Ukrainian, but of course is different. Sometimes I can identify some words very similar to Ukrainian ones I know. There are many Rusyn in Canada and the United States, and there are organizations for them. For more information, you will need to do a web search or there is a LOT of information on Wikipedia. Good luck to you. And indeed, they are a very nice and friendly people - they will give you the shirt off their back, and send you home with delicious baking! Their food is awesome!
