I love visual arts, but I don't know if I'm good enough to be accepted into an art school. See, the thing is I didn't take art after the tenth grade because I chose more science-oriented courses because at the time I thought that was the career for me. Well, fast forward a few years later and I have changed my goals... any opinions or suggestions? I guess I have a low-self-esteem character.

I think if you feel the need to draw, to create something inside yourself, if you cannot live without it, you ARE an artist and you belong to art.
Other people's opinion about your art- it good be good or bad. By the way many great artists were not recognized by their contemporaries until after their death. So other people's negative opinion should not stop you. Keep working hard. Try to get a coach, if you can afford it. Or meet some artists- for some encouragement and also they'll know how to apply to school and how to get a job. Go ahead and apply. I wish you good luck.

I started college as a pre-pharmacy major. 2nd semester of my freshman yr, I decided to switch fine arts. Now, I am a graphic designer and art and design is a big part of my life.

Sounds like you may be kinda like me, analytical but at the same time creative. Maybe you should go for something like architecture, industrial design or graphic design.

Although I attended a big ten school and not a fine arts college, I have seen my friends apply and get into art schools. Also, I had to put together a portfolio to get into the graphic design program. It's all about your porfolio. Make sure you show a range of your talents. Get help from your art teachers or ask others who are currently attending the art school of your choice to critique your portfolio.

If you put the time into this, I am sure you'll have no problems getting into an art school.

Good luck.
