i'm an "assistant" in an elementry office, and about 2304 times a day kids get sent down there, even for simple things like not doing homework. Do the teachers just not care and do not bother with them in form of laziness, or is it because they're restricted to do anything really?

Hey! I'm a TEACHER...not a nanny or a babysitter, a TEACHER!

You'd better believe that if I can, I'll discipline this child in my classroom because I'd rather have him there LEARNING than in the office twidling his thumbs! However, if a parent refuses to be cooperative, or if misbehavior continues then I HAVE to send him to the office because, well, what else can I do when I've tried everything BUT spanking? (and believe me, there are times when I've wanted to spank...oh so badly!)

Education begins in the home. If a child's parents are cooperative then I don't have to do much discipline because I deal with it at school and there's follow through at home...so the behavior stops. If there is no follow through at home, the behavior continues and the situation escalates...finally, ending up with a trip to the Principal's office. Hey, I've got a job to do, I can't deal with unruly children ALL DAY! Their behavior impedes / impacts other students' learning too you know!

For some parents the wake up call...maybe mostly out of embarrassment is a call from the Principal to their work place...you'd be surprised how many kids come back "fixed" after that!

IF the parents gave the kids a 'time slot' to do their homework...BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE WAS ENJOYED...(except after-school-snack)..like, TV, Computer, outdoor sports, phone calls/texting, etc., then they'd have their homework done. The teachers have had their hands tied behind there backs...so never think they don't CARE...it's really the other way around---NO ONE CARES ABOUT THE TEACHER'S rules & assignments. The LAZY ones are the parents. I was a parent and getting on the phone with the principle every single Friday to check on the progress (or lack of it) of my kid...helped the teacher and it helped my child FOREMOST---and it also helped ME. Disipline starts at home. Don't you see kids running their parents ragged in the stores?...the parents are always, "Johnny you stop that now!"...and Johnny is always "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA". My kid would have taken a little trip to the washroom with me! and come out much better behaved. Creativity of Disipline? What's the % of parents who show up at a PTA meeting these days? (oooooo that's another ?)
