how that thumbs up/down thingy works....i have just had a look at some of my questions and on some of the answers there are points 1...2.....who is giving them because its not me...can someone explain fully how it works.

Anybody can give a thumbs up or a thumbs down to a question or answer once they reach Level 2.

It's a way of saying that you think that the question or answer is a good one or a bad one. It doesn't affect the voting but it might help the asker to decide which answer to choose as best.

It's another good idea that has a few flaws.

For example if I read an answer that is flat out wrong I'll give it a thumbs down. I ought to do the same with smart a.... answers but as it seems that's the only kind some give maybe they'd feel as dumb as they appear.

And then there are the bigots that will flag anything that goes against what they think regardless of the merits. Seems like you ought to have to select from a list as to why your giving a thumbs up or down.

anyone can give a thumbs up/down for every question/answer except the person that wrote the question/answer.

it's supposed to be so users can rate whether the question/answer is a good one, but it's open to abuse.
