Racial hatred has never abated over the years, in-fact apathy disguised as tolerance has been the long standing facade which is fast eroding.

This is an argument about multiracial-ism vs multiculturalism. the former has every chance of succeeding but multiculturalism is a harder thing to achieve (and seems to currently be in crisis)-if we continue to have different cultures living side by side without much interaction and with growing mistrust, jealousy, anger and hatred growing between them.I disagree that racial hatred is at the same level as, say 30 years ago (i can only talk for the UK) but it's nowhere near as diminished as it should be. The dangers seems to be that we all keep lumping race and culture in the same box.If we mistrust the culture then we tend to tar an entire race with the same brush (Hence the upsurge in anti- Americanism when really It's a mistrust of a the present government and scapegoating of all of middle eastern origin as terrorists when that's clearly not the case) If different cultures can live side by side in mutual respect then we have a chance but if each culture wants to subordinate the other or undermine the way of life and culture of another (and this works both ways even if it's a less than level playing field) then we're all headed for a lot of unnecessary pain and upheaval. If it all looks unmanageable then we're going to see an increase in ideologies based on seperate development (again!!). It looks like multiculturalism will need to be redefined in the coming years beacuse for it suceed we all have to have common goals and aspirations or the world is going to have lots of disperate gated communities and/or ghettos and tribes.
It's a common culture that we need to establish.

Of course it can look at Jamaica! Ok so it's a poor country but there are so many people there of different nationalities and race all getting along e.g. Germans, English, Indians, Chinese etc. The only racism that exists is from the older generation (say those in their 60's and above). They have this stigma that light-skinned blacks are better than dark-skinned blacks. Go figure. The younger generation do not tend to think that way.

Intolerance is caused by ignorance and a lack of understanding. People have got to be encouraged to talk, to listen, to understand. I probably have personal friends from over 20 countries. We have been brought up in different cultures and in many religions. The one thing we have in common is that we are all basically nice people. We give and get respect.
One of the biggest problems in the UK is that the various ethnic or cultural groups tend to be exclusive and people outside the group have little chance of learning and understanding.

People of all races and nationality really can get along as equals, it is when people go to live in others countries that the trouble starts.

Everybody has one person to control, themselves. If we individually decide to treat each other with dignity and respect in our everyday endeavors, it would bring about a very positive change.Much of what you say is evident on this site. People will try to gain understanding only to have trolls jumping to questions and bringing about disruption and conflict. People like this keep the world in chaos.

If we manage to give up greed.
Racism/nationalism and religious differences are only a tool in the hands of those that can't get enough power and money.

I think that we can if we all stop caring about each other skin color. But some are so racist and continue to pass it own generation after generation.I don't look a color at all.I think I have friends of all races.I look at the soul not the skin.

It can be achieved when everybody respects one another and thinks of other people as equals. We are all the same no matter background, colour or religion.
