I just went to a birthing class a few days ago, and they said it happens in about 6-24 hours. First babies drop early, and subsequent babies usually don't drop until labor begins.

It depends on the height from which you drop the baby. If it's from a 2 story balcony, it should only take a few seconds. I can't imagine it ever taking more than a couple of minutes unless you drop the baby from an airplane.

This is my second pregnancy, had my first child Jan 2000 by emergency c section at 37 weeks, he never dropped. This one however dropped last week 2 days before I was 33 weeks, my midwife told me. I cant tell as my bump has dropped, and my belly button. I was carrying really high previously. Its cool as I can breathe better, but sleeping is more difficult and the pressure too.

i didn't even noticed my son dropped until a few days before i went into labor..i just felt incredibly uncomfortable, i could feel him pressing against me in a not too pleasant way. i also had lower backaches, really dull ones.
every woman is different though. it could be sudden or gradual. :-)

Every woman is different but I have read that in women who have not given birth before will drop 4-6 weeks before they deliver, and in women who have given birth before usually go in to or typically in labor by that point.Good Luck to you.
