I've noticed that in some parts of London recently- especially in the Camden area, there seem to have been added strings of bright, small blue lights- one adjacent to each lamp. Does anyone know the purpose of these lights?

Blue lights are mounted to the backside of the traffic light fixture. When the front side of the traffic signal goes to yellow from green, the blue light goes on. Now, when a motorcycle officer is waiting on the backside of the intersection, he can tell which cars are going through the intersection AFTER the traffic light has gone to yellow.
