My kids watch a lot of Nickelodeon and I've noticed that every dad in each of the shows they watch, the dads are really stupid. Why is this? Jimmy Newtron's dad; Timmy Turner's Dad; The Rock Star dad; Jack Phenton, the dad from Danny Phantom. Nickelodeon should be more aware of how bad they're making these male figures appear to youngsters.

Mom's are usually smarter, I've noticed that too. Its a good thing, maybe they want to show more of what real life is like to these youngsters. lol....

Truth, The mother is always the rock of the family.. If your old enough , there was Father knows best. He was knowledgeable, nurturing and loving, but even he was rarely at home. it was mom.

Most of us men rely on our wives almost completely in the home.

dad can be a rocket scientist, but hasn't a clue in the home.

The wife cooks, cleans, prepares meals and the kids.
Now a days she also works and he still expects his due benevolence in the evening.

This is truth.

The moms in those shows are also very dim (at least in Jimmy Neutron, Odd Parents, and Danny Phantom). There's a similar concept in literature from Grimm to Snicket where orphans like Hansel and Gretel or the Baudelaires must rely on their own abilities rather than adults.

I think the cartoons feature buffoon-parents to empower kids in a more lighthearted way than by killing off the parents. Hope this helps!

It's that stereotypical "dumb dad/husband". They're all over sitcoms too. Try watching Disney Channel. I personally think the way they portray the men and dads in their shows is very positive. Although, I can't speak for the cartoons, since I don't watch those. Only the live acting shows.

Not just on Cartoons, but on sitcoms as well, dads and husbands are usually portayed as stupid and bumbling, especially when it comes to raising the kids. How often have you seen a father basically act like one of the children? It's basically the same joke over and over again.

Of course not. Nick makes parents in general look bad. The dad is always stupid and the mom is always too strict. It's the work of MTV.

I think the white doofus dad is a real life character. I overhear them talking in public and they really do not have a clue that their kids are smoking pot and his wife is screwing a used car salesmen.

I don't know why they portray them as such. I guess the writers of the shows feel it will get laughs. It's the easy way to get a laugh I suppose. Good Luck ! :)

oh, please! Take a look at the dads on network sitcoms! They're all idiots - Raymond, King of Queens, all of them
I for one am getting pretty tired of us males being portrayed as dense, unfeeling idiots all the time.
Is it women who write these plot developments?
