Most doctors wait for about two weeks. My second child was induced because she was just fine and dandy where she was. Doctors can't tell if a baby will be overdue or not. Plenty of healthy babies weigh 6 1/2 lbs at full term birth. Enjoy your little baby and if the baby is late look at it as more time to sleep through the night (except of course the countless number of times you gotta go to the bathroom through the night).

Most doctors don't want to induce before the due date unless the baby is really big (6 1/2 isn't too big). But you might only want to go about a week over your due date. Your doctor probably has a policy on how long he/she normally lets a pregnancy go overdue. Good luck!

i went 6 days overdue and my son is the greatest ever lol
anyways in canada at least it's illegal to be induced before you're a week over due i would not recomend it it's like going from 0 pain to 100% in a couple mins instead of a gradual increase i am told. plus there nothing wrong with going overdue your doctor will check you everyday and make sure you and the baby are fine your baby may need the extra baking time i was all gung ho to get induced until i heard more about it but if you are in a great hurry i would think about a cervical streching it makes you go in to labour in the next couple of days i don't think they are suposed to do that before a week either but i don't think they mind so much

That is a pretty good size baby for 36 weeks, and no reason to worry if baby got a bit bigger, maybe 1-2 more lbs.,typically in the last weeks of pregnancy that is basically what the baby is doing is gaining its weight & maturing the lungs.Since you are only a few days shy of your due date I would wait & see if baby comes on his/her own, being induced is more painful that starting labor on your own.And remember your due date is just a guesstimate, the baby can be ready two weeks before your due date or two weeks after, but in all let's not hope that you have to wait that long, being pregnant at the end weeks take forever for us preggo ladies,I am 37 weeks along and feel that I am done NOW!..lol Good Luck to you & congrats on your upcoming bundle of joy!

Generally, obstetricians usually wait until 10 days past the due date before inducing labor. The reason is as the fetus grows it will be harder to deliver it via normal vaginal delivery. Obstetricians will also deliver a baby earlier if he/ she believes the weight of the baby will complicate delivery or otherwise harm the baby.
The drug (pitocin) which is used to induce labor is a synthetic form of a human hormone (oxytocin). Unfortunately, it has an undesirable side-effect. It intensifies contractions and mothers usually complain that it is quite painful (more so than deliveries without it). However, the side-effects will subside within 24hours.

No. wait it out a little longer, the baby will have a chance to grow a little more and maybe even come on its own even if late. I would say not to get induced to unitll you have to, being overdue isnt a bad thing otherwise it would never happen to anyone.

Some doctors will not induce till you are two weeks past your estimated due date. BUt will not let you carry past two weeks, because it put you at risk for toximia. which is an infection of the placenta getting old.
Talk to your ob about this and see what practice they believe in.
I had two doctors that felt strong about inducing and waiting the two weeks, and another who induced me two days after my due date. without ?, and left the decision up to me.

Unless the baby shows signs of being in distress they din't normally induce until you are 2 weeks late.

firsly...rather wait till baby come out naturally coz inducement contractions hurt much worse than natural contractions.
ppl usually consider inducement if baby is 7days or more over due. obgyn usually check at 7 days past due to check if aniotic fluid is still in good condittion and baby is still striving. then if conditions are considered to be deteriorating then they will recomend inducement.
my advice is to wait for nature to take its course...
peace be with you and your family
