The purpose of this question is to see if you view the position as a career move, and the company as a place you see yourself staying and growing. Companies view people who would see themselves in the exact same position in five years as not motivated to improve themselves and therefore not motivated to go above and beyond for the company. They believe (and I think in most cases its true) that someone who doesn't see growth will either be a minimum worker, just getting by; or will get bored sooner and move on to a different company for the change they seek, rather than seeing a way to challenge themself and get a change within the company. It is expensive to recruit externally, the comapny wants to think you are going to be around as long as possible if they choose you.
Therefore, before you go to the interview think about and research what would be the logical next move from the position you are interviewing for. If you're not sure pick two directions you could see yourself going in there - you have to be the enthusiastic type to pull off the multiple paths approach, as in "well, I see so much opportunity within your organization! For example, I could see myself...(x); on the other hand I think there is also great potential for me to add value for you by ...(y)" If you can be sincere about it this can be a stronger move than just one option, because it also indicates flexibility, which in this increasingly globalized and changing world is of tremendous value.
Good luck!

7. Where do you see yourself in about five years from now?
It is good to have short term and long term goals, so when asked talk about it. It shows you have a forward-looking approach and that you plan for future. Stay away from ambiguity and be as specific as possible, like , I see myself playing a critical role in the (mention the department you are working for).

If you want to exude self-confidence, say that you see yourself doing the same thing as you are now because you love your life.

Same job, same house, hopefully with a little more money. And worry about a teenager driving. Thanks, that was depressing!
